During Art Basel Miami 2023, 1 Hotel South Beach showcased Iridescent Atmospheres, a series of abstract Images taken around the Yucatán Peninsula by the Talented Photographer Ruvan Wijesooriya through a meditative VR experience. Curated by Nicole Ianniello, the evening featured a projected optical film titled Light Has Memory alongside prints and Wijesoriya’s Yucatan: Explore the Expansion of Space signed books for sale. The event occurred at the hotel’s beachfront venue, 1 Beach Club, on December 1st, 2022, during this Miami’s famous Art Basel, one of America's most significant Art fairs.
The VR experience was a compilation of abstract images immersed in analog grain and bathed in beautiful colors. Participants got to experience a new reality. Some reported that it changes their physiological state: relaxation, destressing, a re-bot, spiritual awakening, preparation for flow-state, jogging of memories, processing grief, and a buffer between contexts. The work aims to give participants a personal journey to create space between thoughts in a timeless setting. Alongside a tranquil soundtrack created by Gabriel Andruzzi from The Rapture plays as you experience the images as an animated journey.
About the Artist
Ruvan Wijesooriya came into the world in Duluth, Minnesota, in 1977. He had a migrant childhood as an offspring of Sri Lankans who joined the US Foreign Service. Following a degree in Political Economy and Gender Studies in 1999, Ruvan moved to New York City, establishing himself as a cutting-edge photographer by making public establishments and occasions with performers and utilizing innovation to encounter his work. Ruvan's story method for managing photography examines our overall environmental factors' general and nostalgic visual language. His scenes, portrayals, aeronautical perspectives, nature series, and article work are pushed by his ongoing examination of greatness and stylishness.
